EXHIBITION ‘Stone, Paint and People’ (Click here for details)
By admin |
A new and very exciting exhibition will open in the Brockagh Centre, Laragh on Friday 6th November. The exhibition entitled ‘Stone, Paint and People’ will feature the work of Clara Vale based sculptor Seighean O Draoi and Donegal based artist, Ian Gordon. The exhibition will officially open at 8pm on Friday 6th and will run until Sunday 15th November. The art exhibition will have particular relevance to the locality, not only because Seighean lives in the area but also some of the works to be showcased by Ian features Trooperstown Hill, Knockrath and Clara Vale.
Seighean O Draoi is a sculptor working in stone and wood who lives in Clara Vale. Originally from Dublin, he spent over ten years learning his trade while living in the more remote parts of Connemara and Donegal. His work is inspired by and represents Irish mythology, reinterpreting legend and fact with contemporary expression.
An avid historian, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge and together with his practical artistic skill he is a formidable resource for the Glendalough area. He makes himself readily available through the evening classes he offers from his Studio most nights of the week. Whilst living in the Donegal gaeltacht Seighean met Ian Gordon and they are looking forward to the opportunity of exhibiting their work together.
Ian Gordon moved to Donegal from London thirty years ago and is a dedicated ‘en plein air’ landscape painter in oils. He has exhibited extensively in Ireland, and also France, Canada and the U.S.A. He works expressively, laying on thick paint with palette knife and brush in a high energy start to finish approach. Intuitively building in colour, an emotive response to the light and landscape.
