Sustainable Laragh/Glendalough

By admin |

Following the Make our Community Sustainable course in the Brockagh Centre the group held a “Showcase” where we invited members of the local community to come along and share some of what we learnt, discussed and debated over the previous weeks.  It was a “World Café” styled event where people moved from table to table and discussed ideas.  There were many common themes and areas of interest.  The main areas of interest were Tourism & Heritage, Food, Energy, Transport  and Employment.  Already some of the group have started to get going on some of the projects.  The road from Laragh to Glendalough has been a hive of activity where some of the group have started to ‘de-bramble’ around Trinity Church and outside their own area on the Glendalough Road.   It is fantastic to be able to see the traditional stone walls with a new lease of life.  This complements the trojan work carried out by the local Tidy Towns who meet at 11am on the first Saturday of the month outside Lynhams and they always welcome new members.  Some of the sustainable group are investigating the possibility of setting up a community garden and others have gone along  to the recent County Wicklow Partnership meeting to find out about funding opportunities for some of the projects discussed.  We will be holding a network meeting in mid March – details will follow.  If you are interested in any of the above themes please leave your name with the Brockagh Centre on (0404) 45600 and we will be in contact re meetings/projects.
