Summer Festival

We are delighted to host this year’s Summer festival for older people on the 25th of June at the Brockagh Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome, if you are interested in attending save the date in your diary. Dippers, Fishers and Wags birds of the Avonmore River

A talk by Oran O Sullivan on a Heritage Plan project to survey water birds and other wildlife associated with the bridges of the Avonmore water catchment. Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh at 7.00 pm on Wed 22nd May, FREE, no booking needed.

Note for Badminton

Main Badminton sessions are finished for the Summer now. Seniors on Thurs from 8-9pm are continuing for the following dates- May 16th, June 6th and 13th. Contact Philomena 087 2067607.

County Wicklow Older Person’s AGM

Join us for the County Wicklow Older Person’s Council AGM, taking place on the 31st May in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Registration followed by tea and coffee from 9.45 to 10.30am. Opening from Chairperson Mai Quaid with guess speakers are Minister Andrew Doyle, Patricia Rikkard-Clarke. Lunch and a raffle, continuing in the afternoon with music by Liam Garrett performing at the tea dance.  No admission fee. 

Metal Scrap Day a Great Success

Thank you to anyone in the community who got rid of their unwanted scrap in our recent fund raiser for the Brockagh Resource Centre, we raised €1,145.00.

 

Glendalough Country Market & Car Boot Sales       

We have now moved to the 2nd Sunday of the month. Encouraging local and non-local producers of plants, vegetables, crafts etc. Our next event will be on Sun, 12th of May, open from 10am to 4pm. Bargains on practically anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early. Contact the Brockagh Centre on 0404-45600, emailbrockaghcarboot@gmail or laraghit@eircom.net if you wish to book an indoor space or if you prefer to sell outside just show up at 8am on the morning.

Angelic Workshops 2019

The last workshop for this season in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh will be on the 19th May (A Rainbow Day with the Angels). For information or to book a place call 087 904 8146.

Go For Life

The group meet most Tuesdays, so if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, bowls, music come along on at 11am, they welcome any newcomer. The group meet for lunch once a month at various venues. For further information, call Denise at the Brockagh Centre on (0404) 45600 or drop in.

Traditional Basket Weaving Workshops

Pilates Classes in Laragh

Evening Pilates classes will begin on Mondays at 7pm, starting on January 7th in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Thursday mornings classes will continue for now at 10am. Pilates strengthens core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibility, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing. Zara Elkinson has trained and qualified through the STOTT Pilates Method of Movement. This method combines modern theories of exercise science with spinal rehabilitation, which gives a safe and effective exercise that sees results and is accessible to all. Free Computer Course

A free 5-week digital skills computer course are run throughout the year, two hours one day a week. Topics covered include online banking, apps, online government services, email, shopping online, photographs, podcasts, TV players, social media and much more. This course is for beginners or someone who is rarely online and wants to up skill. Call the Brockagh Resource Centre on 0404 45600 or email laraghit@eircom.net.

Irish Dancing Classes

Irish Dancing on Saturday mornings from  9am-10am. Walking  group in the Brockagh

On Monday mornings weekly at 10am join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendalough area for approximately one hour. All ages and abilities are welcome. Call Lucy on 0863107511.

We Love Art

Art and crafts classes for children of primary school age take place on Monday afternoons.  Classes cover a wide range of art and craft techniques and processes, giving kids an outlet for creative self-expression while learning new skills.  Classes are small and places must be reserved in advance, the first class is free for new students. Almha Roche is a professional artist and an experienced and qualified art teacher.    The new term starts on 10th September – the first class is free for new students.  See Facebook: weloveartcrafts. Adult Art Classes

Wednesday morning  drawing and painting classes are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters.  Students choose the medium(s) with which they wish to work, and develop their interests and personal style with Almha’s advice and guidance.  If you are thinking of getting back into your art, or trying something new to explore your creative side, now is a good time!  Classes are at 11-12.30pm in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, commencing on September 19th. Tae kwon-Do for Youths and Adults (classes are ongoing)

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentration, channeling aggression, balance, coordination, speed, reactions, fitness and health. Call Master Kenneth Wheatley on 087-2547347 for further information. Classes are on Tuesdays at 7.45-8.45pm (Seniors & Teens).

AA Meetings  (Ongoing)

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night.

Citizen’s Information Clinic (Ongoing)

C.I.C have now an office in the Brockagh Resource Centre on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10-12 providing valuable personal advice relating to your rights and entitlements on a large range of matters. No appointment necessary. This is a free and confidential service.  For more information go to www. citizensinformation.ie. 

Happy Days – Parent and Toddler Group

Tuesdays mornings 10.30 -12pm at the Brockagh Centre, parents, babies and toddlers get together, have lots of fun weeks with art & crafts and make new friends. It is also a great way to meet and socialize with parents, especially if you are new to the area. Contact us at 0404-45600 at the centre for more information.

Morning Yoga with Louise   (Ongoing)

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11.15 am. This is a gently-paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilizing the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. Chair Yoga  (Ongoing)

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 am to 12.45 pm. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breath-work, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement whilst seated or through use of the chair whilst standing. Laragh Badminton  Club – Junior and Seniors (Main Badminton Classes now finished for summer)

Play takes place on Mondays for Fourth Class (7 to 8 pm) and Fifth and Sixth Classes (8 to 9 pm).  On Thursdays, secondary school students play between 7 and 8 pm.  Membership costs €60 per child for the year; €16 of this goes directly to Badminton Ireland.  The membership fee for Senior players is €120 – playing time is 9 to 10 pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Evening Yoga with Viva  (Finished for Summer)                                                                                                                                                                  Viva’s yoga classes are for beginners to intermediate on Tuesdays at 7pm in the Brockagh Centre. Improve your fitness strength and flexibility in a relaxing way. Wear comfortable clothes on the night and bring a blanket. Mats are available on the night. Drama School 

Drama classes are a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouraging creativity and imagination. Drama modules will incorporate improvisation, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunities to take graded examinations under a fully qualified teacher. Elevation holds a 100% pass rate in IBSD examinations. Advanced Contemporary-Senior Drama at 7pm  is held at the Brockagh Centre. Elevation Dance School
