Many thanks to those who supported our recent Table Quiz in the Glendalough Hotel and to those who donated raffle prizes. We will be running a community Christmas event on the Green in Laragh on 10^th December the details of which will depend on the funds raised at our quiz so further details will follow. The Brockagh Resource Centre wish to thank all our friends and patrons for their support throughout 2011 and we wish you all a Happy, Holy and Peaceful Christmas. The Centre will close at lunchtime on Friday 23^rd December and will re-open from Wednesday 4^th January – please call (0404) 45600 to check opening times.

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement

It’s hard to believe another year has gone by so quickly. Some of the group went to see the Three Priests in Wexford Opera Theatre in December and were very impressed with the singers and the venue. Our Christmas lunch was held in Lynhams this year and everyone enjoyed the mulled wine, good food, good company, gifts, raffle, songs and of course Santa who dropped in to say hello. A thank you to Ms Savage and the teachers and pupils of Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa for entertaining us with Christmas Carols and verse, the children were brilliant. We wish to thank everyone for their support during the past year especially Lynhams Hotel, Wicklow Heather, Glendalough Hotel, and Glenmalure Lodge. Thank you also to John Preston & the Laragh Lads who provided the entertainment at our transport fundraiser in July and thanks to all those who supported the event. We also wish to thank the Brockagh Centre and George Windsor for help organising our outings and other events during the year. We will be back in action on Tuesday 17^th January at 11 am in the Brockagh Centre and our next lunch date is Tuesday 7^th February. Everyone is welcome to our weekly session or for our monthly lunches.

Our next lunch which will be our Christmas lunch will take place on Tuesday 13^th December in Lynhams (this will also be our monthly lunch for December). We will be finishing up for Christmas on the 13^th December and return on Tuesday 17^th January.

Free Seminar – “Tips to treat muscular pains and aches”.

Brockagh Centre 15th of December at 6pm in IT Room. Elena Rodriguez from Soul in Hands Massage Therapy is holding a Seminar: “Tips to treat muscular pains and aches”.

- 45 minutes talking and demonstrating different ways to deal with muscle pain at home.

- 15 minutes presentation of my local business, “Soul In Hands massage therapy” and the benefits of massage.

All the people who assist will have the opportunity to buy on-site, if they wish, massage vouchers for half the value price (for e.g. a full body massage is usually €60, they can get a voucher for €30). Marie Keating Foundation

The Marie Foundation Mobile Unit and nurse will be at the Brockagh Centre on Tuesday 6^th December from 10.30 a.m. until 2.30 p.m. The Marie Keating Foundation, works to beat cancer through awareness, education and support services. Everyone is welcome to come to the Brockagh Centre at 11 a.m. where Ursula Clancy from the Marie Keating Foundation will give a talk about cancer or you may wish to visit the mobile unit which will be in the car park for information and support. The Foundation focuses on cancers that are affected by lifestyle choices and its nurses work hard to ensure that men and women are made aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle as well as early detection as a key preventative measure. Arts Fundraiser at Christmas Market

4th of December: Massage-Fundraising for Glendalough Arts Network at the Christmas Market on the 4th of December. Elena Rodriguez, from Soul In Hand Therapy is doing a fundraising day at the Brockagh Centre Xmas market . Donations are €5 for a hand massage and €10 for a chair back massage. All the funds will go for the activity the group is organising on the 10th of December on the Green in Laragh with Santa and future events.

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement

Some of our members joined over 200 people from all over Wicklow in the Glendalough Hotel on Thursday 17 November for the Co Wicklow Network for Older People Seminar “A Voice for Older People in Wicklow”. It was a very informative and enjoyable day where participants learned about collective action, choices and how hard times can create opportunities for older people and their services. People also got a chance to voice their opinion on a number of issues, were entertained by the Get Vocal Players and enjoyed good food and good company. Co Wicklow Network for Older People is very active in promoting and lobbying on behalf of older people in Co Wicklow. Laragh Glendalough & District Active Retirement is represented on the steering committee by Bernadette from the Brockagh Centre.

Our next lunch will take place on Tuesday 1^st November in the Glenmalure Lodge and our Christmas Lunch will take place in Lynhams on Tuesday 13^th December (this will also be our monthly lunch for December). We will be finishing up for Christmas on the 13^th December.
