Reduced funding, caps on Fas training allowances and the general downturn have impacted on the IT Centre which is struggling to make ends meet, get computers serviced and upgraded, and pay its rent. We would appreciate feedback from the community and any extra support would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you have an IT qualification and could help us with servicing or upgrading our machines, or maybe you could offer us some other service. If yes please contact Colette on (0404) 45600. Please note in order to make courses viable we need a minimum of 4/5 people. Maybe you are a club or group of parents and would like us to customise a course for you. Let us know your requirements and we will do our best to help you out. Call us on (0404) 45600. We offer affordable training, locally.

Presentation Night
Wednesday 14th September was an evening of celebration in the Brockagh Centre. We had the ‘premiere’ of the Brockagh Beast – a film produced, directed and starring a group of young students who had undertaken a film making course in the Brockagh Centre, as part of the centre’s youth programme. The students were presented with certificates by John Lawlor, who has worked in the film industry for a number of years and now lives in Laragh. John shared his experiences of being involved with the film Excalibur which was filmed in the local area and encouraged the young people to observe and record what is around them, particularly in our wonderful local area. This course was funded by County Wicklow Partnership’s Rural Development Programme. A number of IT students also received certificates presented by Cormac O’Sullivan from the Glendalough & District Development Association, who congratulated the students on their achievements. The students in turn thanked their tutors Michelle, Janette, Deborah, Valerie & Bernadette. Pauline Fahy, the manger of the Brockagh Centre, drew attention to the fact that in the IT Centre in the Brockagh Centre someone could start as an absolute beginner and work themselves up to the JEB course where you qualify as an IT tutor which was a major achievement in a rural area. One of the highlights of the evening was the Byrne family from Greenane, mam Kathleen, dad Arthur and their daughter Kaitlin who received their certificates as a family for an internet and e-mail course they undertook. The evening finished with refreshments and students got a chance to catch up.
