Brush Pile Creation and Tree Maintenance: Coill na Luise Reserve (Wicklow) We will meet at Trooperstown Car Park at 10AM on Sunday 10th December 2023 and carpool to our Laragh Reserve nearby. Once on site, our first priority will be to tackle tree maintenance. We will divide into two teams; Guard Repairers and Maintainers. The repairers will repair any tree guards in need, while the maintainers will cut back competing vegetation at the base of our trees. We will move as a unit from one enclosure of trees to the next. After a break for tea, coffee and our packed lunches, we will move timber into the reserve into key locations to create our biodiversity brush piles. Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns The adjudicator’s for the Tidy Town’s 2023 Competition was very positive this year. Our mark increased by 10 points. Particular areas in our community of commendation were; the very impressive litter free areas despite the large amount of tourists present at the time of judging in late June; Very little dog fouling apparent; The Citizen Science project testing water quality in our local rivers; The new Heritage trail and leaflet produced, now available in Mc Coy’s shop; tidy residential housing estates. Recommendation that the white lines at the pedestrian crossing close to the school be repainted as not all traffic observed slowing down on Glendalough road. Good public seating for walkers and families on village approach roads. Well done and thank you to all our hard working volunteers and residents on this very positive report. Thankfully WCC organised the removal of this tree and nobody was injured or accident caused. Tidy Towns have planted 2 Mountain Ash trees in this space. Rewilding Wicklow Rewilding Wicklow would like to work collaboratively with LAragh Glendalough Tidy Towns to plant trees in and around our community. Bright Stars Baby & Toddler Group Why not come along to our baby and toddler group on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am on 8th November for a musical morning with the popular Moo Music.
