Stars of Wicklow
Stars of Wicklow, a new countywide talent competition celebrating singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and specialty acts from across the county. The live final will take place in the Arklow Bay Hotel on 9th of October.
We're hoping to reach as many talented performers as possible from across Wicklow.
There are separate Junior (8–17 years) and Adult (18+) categories, with top prizes of €250 and €1,000 respectively, alongside additional prizes including professional headshot packages, recording studio vouchers and the inaugural Stars of Wicklow trophy. Entries are open until 14 August, and all the information can be found at www.starsofwicklow.com.
Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns News
LGTT with ReWild Wicklow will be meeting on 15th of August at the Wicklow Gap junction to remove(as much as possible) invasive species seedlings etc. Wicklow National Park rangers will take away the sacks of species afterwards. Meeting at the site for 10am with Niamh leading the group into action.
LGTT volunteers have been busy addressing the ongoing rubbish including dog poo bags being left around our woodlands and river beauty spots.
The Cluain Bán residents and LGTT volunteers completed the hedge trimming along the pathway in the centre of the village recently and did a brilliant job, well done everyone! Thank you Lynhams of Laragh for providing refreshments for the volunteers afterwards! Laragh GAA contacted the WCC about hedge overgrowth down towards the Derrybawn Car Park which has now been cut back, thank you WCC.

Family Fun Heritage Day at Glendalough Visitor Centre OPW
23rd August, 10am - 4pm
Come to Glendalough Visitor Centre OPW on Sunday August 23rd with all the family to celebrate Heritage Week. We start off with a Family friendly tour of the Monastic Site in Glendalough followed by hourly sessions of The Big Dig organised by The School of Irish Archaeology and LEGO Workshops by LEGO brick artist Jessica O'Farrell. This initiative is hosted by Glendalough Visitor Centre and Monastic Site OPW with support of The Heritage Office of Wickow County Council in association with Glendalough Heritage Forum as a National Heritage Plan. Pre booking is not necessary and these events are Free but please be aware that car parking fees apply to park in the Glendalough Valley. The Wicklow Placenames Project 2026
The Wicklow Placenames project aims to record the minor placenames of county Wicklow and is looking for you to get involved. Minor placenames are typically not recorded on maps but are known locally and usually passed down through generations via oral tradition. These local names are steeped in local landscape, geology, history, language, folklore and customs and are a rich and unique part of our Wicklow heritage.
This project is an action of the County Wicklow Heritage Plan and is being co-ordinated on behalf of Wicklow County Council by Pat Reid, please contact Pat at info@wicklowwillow.ie if you have information to share or would like to know more.
Bat Walk and Talk
Our next Bat Walk is on 19th of August at 8.45pm with a Bat Talk at 7.45pm. Join us to learn all about these wonderful creatures as we search for bats in flight using our bat detectors along the dark, wooded paths of Glendalough. Species of bats that have been encountered on previous walks include: Soprano Pipistrelle, Leisler’s, long-eared and Daubenton’s bats.
Booking: Free of charge. Booking is not necessary.
Parking: Parking is available at the County Council Upper Lake Car Park, A98W778 (charges apply).
The car park will remain open for the duration of this event. But will close promptly thereafter.
Practicalities: Walking approximately 3 kilometres on both hard and rough surfaced paths on the valley floor. Bring a torch and insect repellent! Dress for the outdoors and bring waterproofs just in case. Except for guide or assistance dogs, dogs are not permitted on National Park events.

Glendalough & District Development Association (GDDA) CLG
The Annual General Meeting of the GDDA CLG will take place on Thursday, 13 August 2026, at 8.30 p.m. in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.
The meeting will include a review of the Association's activities over the past year, presentation of the annual financial statements, election of the Board of Directors, and discussion of plans for the year ahead.
Expressions of Interest are welcome from people who would like to join our voluntary Board of Directors, particularly those with a passion for or experience in arts and creative programmes, music and performance, creative writing and literature, cultural event planning and community engagement. Previous board experience is not required. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
WMNP Woodland Strategy-Summer Lectures
Summer lectures are from 2nd July to 20th August, at 7:30pm every Thursday brought to you by Wicklow Mountains National Park.
Jim Callery will be giving a Spongeworks talk on Thurs 13th of August.

Celebrate Wicklow's Mining Heritage Through Music, Story & Dance!
Join The Barn Ensemble, The Roundwood Set Dancers, and MC Pat Nolan for a special afternoon celebrating the rich musical and social history of mining in County Wicklow.
Enjoy an uplifting programme of newly arranged tunes, storytelling, poetry, dance, archival discoveries, community voices, and a few surprises as we bring to life the everyday experiences of miners and their families. We'll also explore the stories of well-known musicians whose roots lie in Wicklow's mining communities.
This welcoming event is perfect for all ages and anyone with an interest in local history, traditional music, or community arts.
And if you love to dance, don't forget to bring your dancing shoes, you'll be in good company!

Yoga with Louise
Vinyasa Krama Yoga (step-by-step). Classes are from 10am to 11.20 in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh-starting back on September 10th.
The practice will provide gentle stretching, improved strength and flexibility, as well as help students to find balance and calm in everyday life. Louise takes students through Asana, Pranayama and Meditation for a full Yoga practice.

Chair Yoga
Classes are from 11.30am to 12.30 in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh-starting back on September 10th.
Chair Yoga is suitable for those who find a regular yoga class too strenuous, are recovering from injury or illness or are generally less active and mobile. Louise's classes include physical poses (asana), breathing practices (pranayama) and relaxation and meditation. There is some standing work which is optional and done next to the chair.

Laragh Badminton Club
Badminton classes are starting back on Mondays evenings in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh for adults from 7.30-9.30pm. Contact Phil Curley 0404 45175/087 2067607 Or Gosia Ward 087 063 8898. Play will be starting back in September, a small club fee for the year applies for participation. All are welcome.
