Laragh Glendalough Notes Week Beg 18th May

Pilgrim Walk

Following the tradition of pilgrimage, a series of walks has been organised to mark St. Kevin’s Day on Saturday June 6th, 2026. Participants will walk towards Glendalough following a choice of 7 different routes which will merge along the way with other walkers from the same area.

Pick one of the routes and then contact the group leader who will confirm the details on the route’s length, starting time, location or by joining en route for shorter options. Each person will walk all or part of their chosen route finishing with a ‘gathering’ of walkers sharing refreshments at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh A98 D3H1 around 2pm. For route options/contact to a group leader please go to www.glendaloughhermitage.ie.

'Nurturing Nature' - A Celebration of Women in Farming - Breakfast Event

Free event: The Orchard Centre Tinahely, Wicklow Thursday, May 21st from 9am to 12pm. Join us for a cozy continental breakfast celebrating the amazing women growing our food and nurturing the earth.

Join Wicklow Uplands Council, in collaboration with Wicklow IFA and Wicklow County Council, for a special continental breakfast event and workshop marking the UN International Year of the Woman Farmer and Biodiversity Week 2026 at The Orchard Centre & Baileys Farm.

This inspiring gathering will celebrate the vital role farming plays in shaping our landscape, supporting biodiversity, protecting our waters and sustaining rural communities. With a particular focus on women in farming, the event will highlight leadership, resilience, the evolving role of women in rural life and discussion around barriers to entry and succession in the sector .

The morning will be informative, our agenda is invigorating, key note address, guest speaker, case studies, Q& A and workshopping will be guided by the talented and knowledgeable Ella McSweeney,

The event will also honour Saive Coffey, a founding member of Wicklow Uplands Council and a passionate advocate for upland communities.

(Proceedings will conclude with a meaningful tree planting ceremony at the Vartry Reservoir, replacing the commemorative tree dedicated to her that was vandalised in 2023 - for anyone who can make it.)

This is a unique opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate individuals, landscape and communities at the heart of rural Wicklow.
