Big Dig at Glendalough

A children's hands-on archaeological excavation led by the School of Irish Archaeology (SIA) where participants get the chance to be an archaeologist by digging for treasures and artefacts dating back over 1000 years and learning about our Viking ancestors through the eyes of real archaeologists. Join us on the 23rd August, 11am - 4pm, Glendalough Visitor Centre (outside on lawn), Co. Wicklow. A98 HC80.

Hourly sessions, no booking just turn up. Set on the lawn of Glendalough Visitor Centre within the backdrop of Glendalough monastic enclosure. Organised by the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council in association with the Glendalough Heritage Forum as a Heritage Plan action. Celebrate Wicklow's Mining Heritage Through Music, Story & Dance! 

Join The Barn Ensemble, The Roundwood Set Dancers, and MC Pat Nolan for a special afternoon celebrating the rich musical and social history of mining in County Wicklow.

Enjoy an uplifting programme of newly arranged tunes, storytelling, poetry, dance, archival discoveries, community voices, and a few surprises as we bring to life the everyday experiences of miners and their families. We'll also explore the stories of well-known musicians whose roots lie in Wicklow's mining communities.

This welcoming event is perfect for all ages and anyone with an interest in local history, traditional music, or community arts.

And if you love to dance, don't forget to bring your dancing shoes—you'll be in good company!

We would love to see you there for an afternoon of music, memories, and celebration.      This event is in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, A98 D3H1 on Sunday, 23rd August 2026 from 3:00pm – 4:30pm (approx.).

Roundwood Agricultural Show

On the 2nd of August with show classes, trade stands, vintage vehicles, kid’s corner, games, competitions, races, tug of war, pet’s corner, dog show and mega raffle. The show begins at 1pm at An Tochar GAA Grounds.

Bat Walk and Talk

Our next Bat Walk is on 19th of August at 8.45pm with a Bat Talk at 7.45pm. Join us to learn all about these wonderful creatures as we search for bats in flight using our bat detectors along the dark, wooded paths of Glendalough. Species of bats that have been encountered on previous walks include: Soprano Pipistrelle, Leisler’s, long-eared and Daubenton’s bats.

Booking: Free of charge. Booking is not necessary.

Parking: Parking is available at the County Council Upper Lake Car Park, A98W778 (charges apply). The car park will remain open for the duration of this event. But will close promptly thereafter.

Practicalities: Walking approximately 3 kilometres on both hard and rough surfaced paths on the valley floor. Bring a torch and insect repellent! Dress for the outdoors and bring waterproofs just in case. Except for guide or assistance dogs, dogs are not permitted on National Park events.

Bog Restoration-Summer Lectures

Summer lectures are from 2nd July to 20th August, at 7:30pm every Thursday brought to you by Wicklow Mountains National Park.  

Dr. Shane Regan will be giving a lecture this week on bog restoration.

Bray Beach BBQ & Worldfest (July 18–19 & July 25–26). Wicklow Photography Club Exhibition is running throughout July at the Wicklow Library. Tinahely Agricultural Show: Held on the August Bank Holiday, it features livestock, equestrian classes, vintage machinery, crafts, and food stalls. Carnew Agricultural Show: Taking place on August 15th, this event offers traditional livestock competitions, equestrian events, and a strong rural community atmosphere. Bray Air Display & Summerfest: Early August sees massive aerobatic displays above the Bray seafront, accompanied by ongoing town center festivals. Wicklow Head Lighthouse Open Day: Explore the landmark during National Heritage Week (August 16th). Treetop Live Concerts: Brian Kennedy will perform in the stunning surroundings of Beyond the Trees Avondale on August 29th.

Classes will be back after the Summer break at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on  Mondays 4.15 Acro Squad, 5pm Arco L2, 6.30pm Adv Tumbling/Squad Dance. On Wednesdays 2.45pm Tiny Acro/Dance/Mini Acro, 3.30pm Youth Cheer/Dance, 4.30pm Cheer Team: Lucky Stars, 5pm Gr ¾ Mod, 6pm Snr Mod (2hrs), 7pm Zumba(45mins). We offer graded examinations, performances and workshops in a safe and encouraging environment with fully qualified teachers. Pilates Classes in Laragh

Pilates strengthens core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibility, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing. Zara Elkinson has trained and qualified through the STOTT Pilates Method of Movement. This method combines modern theories of exercise science with spinal rehabilitation, which gives a safe and effective exercise that sees results and is accessible to all.
