Active Retirement Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday 10.45am – 12pm at the Brockagh Centre. So if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, dancing and music come along on a Tuesday morning. Our monthly lunches are back too every 2nd Tuesday of the month. We’d like to encourage anyone who loves arts & crafts or any other hobby, maybe you’ve learned new skills and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members, come along and join us. We always welcome new members to join our group. In the next few weeks we have arranged a Flower Arranging Workshop, Card Making Workshop & Chair Yoga. We are going on a day trip to Dublin Zoo on Tuesday 2nd May and there will be no group meeting at the centre that day. Ray Cranley will be singing for us here at the centre on 9th May and we will be going for our monthly lunch afterwards joined by our friends from Sunbeam. Community Garden Our community garden is looking for a new home as our term has finished in it’s current location in the centre of the village. We can not thank Caroline McCoy enough for her kindness and generosity over the past many years in allowing Tidy Towns to initiate the village’s first community garden on her land, the community appreciates the gift you gave to us all. The community garden has seen many long term and new residents get together to grow and socialize with their families in a positive way while learning and sharing food produce. Wicklow Mountains National Park National Park staff are taking to the skies. With an orange fire warning in place, we are all on fire patrol, keeping our National Park safe. You can help too. Please do not light barbeques or fires in the hills during dry spells. And if you see a hill fire, please phone 999. Under the Wildlife Act it is not permitted to burn growing vegetation between the 1st of March and the 31st of August, so all such fires are illegal and need to be reported. Walking Group On Monday mornings weekly at 10am join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk(easy to moderate pace) around the Glendalough area for approximately one hour. No need to book, just show up on the day. Crafty Crafters We had a great start to our first week of Crafty Crafters with some attendees trying pastels for the first time, getting crochet tips and exploring the idea of flower pressing, stone painting and knitting were all interests the group brought along. We are enjoying sharing ideas and skills with each other while having a chat for the few hours we get together. You can be a complete beginner in a craft you bring along, none of us are experts, as a group we share ideas helping each other. Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh from 11am to 1pm. The Miners’ Way: Poetry & Story with Poet Jane Clarke & Historian Joan Kavanagh Join us for this unique outdoor event on Poetry Day Ireland, 27th April 2023 from 10:30am - 1pm. Poet Jane Clarke and historian Joan Kavanagh will lead a 5 km walk along the Miners’ Way from Glendasan to the Upper Lake in Glendalough. Amid the spectacularly beautiful scenery of the Wicklow mountains we will follow a path downhill along the Glendasan river and into the woods leading to Glendalough. Along the way Joan Kavanagh will speak about the mining history and Jane will read poems inspired by the lives of the miners as we pass the remains of old mine workings, ruins of houses where miners lived, stands of Scots Pine planted for pit props. Meeting Place: The Upper Car Park Glendalough, from where a bus will take us to the starting point of the walk. Grade: This is an easy to moderate hill walk with a descent and slight ascent. It is important to have warm clothes, rain gear and boots. Busting with energy the children raced to find easter eggs in the playground at the Brockagh Market/ Carboot on Sunday 2nd of April. A prize was given to Kyle who found the most eggs. Face painting was also on site. We hope to make this an annual event for children in the community!

Wicklow Mountains National Park Walkers and visitors to the National Park please take note that conservation restoration works are starting today Monday 27th March at the old mine buildings at Old Hero, Glendasan on the Wicklow Gap road. https://goo.gl/maps/mrCBkDwwH14Jvnxy6 This area is a start/finish point for the Miner’s Way, and also a popular access point for exploring the Glendasan Valley, the St Kevins Way, Luganure mines and Camaderry Mountain. Although access will not be impeded, there will be a significant reduction in available car parking to facilitate site works. Please note the nearest alternative parking is Glendalough or the Wicklow Gap car parks, the St Kevin’s Way links both of these areas to the Old Hero site. Works are estimated to take 11 weeks to complete, weather permitting. Visitors are requested to observe all safety signage on site. With the help of our volunteers, Junior Tidy Towns group and children from the school we planted birch, oak and white thorn in the village, Ballard Walking Trail, Brockagh Resource Centre and Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa. Every year we get together and plant trees that are important to our natural habitat. Laragh Active Retirement Group Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday 10.45am – 12pm at the Brockagh Centre. So if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, dancing and music come along on a Tuesday morning. Our monthly lunches are back too every 2nd Tuesday of the month. We’d like to encourage anyone who loves arts & crafts or any other hobby, maybe you’ve learned new skills and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members, come along and join us.
