“Parnell’s Downfall—Was Katherine the Cause or the Excuse?”
Join Arklow historian Jim Rees at Wicklow Town Library on Thursday 20th October at 7pm for a fascinating evening exploring one of the most dramatic episodes in Irish political history.
Jim will examine how attitudes to Charles Stewart Parnell shifted during the 1870s and 1880s, and ask whether the infamous O’Shea divorce and his marriage to Katherine truly caused the split in nationalist politics—or whether they were simply the excuse the growing anti-Parnellite faction needed to oust him.
All are welcome, but booking is required. Call 0404 67025 or email Wicklib@wicklowcoco.ie
to reserve your place.
