If you have an interest in archaeology and Glendalough it is a fantastic experience. We regret we cannot offer places to those under 18 this year. Adult places (subject to availability) are available from fixed blocks of two or three days. No prior knowledge of excavation is required and we endeavour to accommodate people of all abilities. When to Expect Runners: Glendalough Area: Runners will be moving through from 6:30–8:15 AM. Laragh Village & Backroads to Sallygap/Lough Tay: After 8:15 AM, athletes head out via country roads toward Sallygap. Cyclists: If you're out early, we recommend following the Gap clockwise to avoid surprise encounters—especially on downhill segments. The field spreads out quickly once on Military Road, but caution is advised throughout. Traffic & Safety Notes: No road closures are planned. Garda presence is expected in Laragh village. Road signs go up on Friday, with general info signs on main access points 10 days in advance. Bright Stars Baby & Toddler Group Our baby and toddler group is on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am. We provide a welcoming and lively space for parents and children to gather and grow. Our activities will include ‘messy play’, story and song, games (guest speakers), snacks, tidy-up and new equipment which will allow both you as the parent/carer and your child to meet friends, explore new things and learn. For some parents, grandparents and carers, the weekly catch-up and opportunity for children to play and make new friends is enough. Taekwon-Do at Laragh Laragh Taekwon-Do is running the fantastic ITF Kids Development Program for the 4s to 8s, it covers topics such as physical skills, mind skills, independence skills, nutrition awareness and of course Taekwon-Do Skills. The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness, Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Our Active Retirement Group meet every Tuesday 10.45am – 12pm at the Brockagh Centre. If you fancy a chat, a cuppa, some light exercise, dancing and music come along on a Tuesday morning. We’d like to encourage anyone who loves arts & crafts or any other hobby, maybe you’ve learned new skills and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members, come along and join us. We always welcome new members to join our group. The group have a Pottery Workshop, Chair Yoga and Day trips planned over the coming weeks. The May Tea Dance will take place on Sunday 25th May 3pm – 6pm at the Brockagh Centre Laragh, music by the Wicklow Man. Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns Planting with ReWild Wicklow We partnered with ReWild Wicklow last week for more planting at the Wicklow Gap junction near the entrance to Glendalough. A lot of work has been done to create a green space on the newly designed junction on a steep bank by all the volunteers, who have been great, giving up their free time. Trees such as rowan, birch, hawthorn, hazel and holly etc., have been planted and protected from our deer population. Works in Laragh LGTT had a very productive meeting with WCC District Engineer William Halligan, Martin Stacey, Dermot and WCC area foreman Vinny last week regarding community concerns. Areas discussed included; flooding in Laragh village, disintegrated footpaths, kerbing at the Glendalough Cafe green space, lighting, blocked gullies, signage cleaning, traffic calming measures, and a community notice board. Several positive decisions were agreed and work will commence on the village flooding areas as soon as possible. Keep an eye out for traffic management systems that will be in place so please slow down and take care. Duck Race Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa are having a DUCK RACE!! 10am on Saturday 15th of March. Meet at the Glendalough Hotel. Entry fee is €10 and available to purchase from the parents association/McCoys. Limited number available. Great prizes and all are welcome for this fun event in aid of our local National School.
