Jazz Night (Culture Night-Free Event) Bray International Jazz Festival returns for its fourth Culture Night to the lovely St. Saviour’s Church in Rathdrum to present ‘Ebb & Flow’; saxophonist Michael Buckley’s critically acclaimed quartet.Ebb and Flow is a new and entirely original project from the Dublin bandleader and saxophonist, who is accompanied by three of the great players of contemporary Irish jazz: Greg Felton (piano), Barry Donohue (bass) and Shane O’Donovan (drums). The group released their debut album to critical acclaim on the Livia Label in the Spring. The music is modern, tender, and exciting, featuring daring up-tempo post-bop tunes, beautiful ballads, and imaginative improvisation. Michael Buckley is recognised as a leading Irish jazz musician, producer and band leader. A phenomenal tenor player, he is also a much in demand producer and arranger. He has collaborated and toured with The Mingus Big Band, and played with a host of international name jazz stars including Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie, Jason Moran, Jason Rebello and Joey Baron. Active Retirement Laragh The Active Retirement Group are back after their Summer break with music in the Brockagh Resource Centre on Tuesday, September 16th.  They meet every Tuesday morning from 10:45am to 12:15pm at the Brockagh Centre (with breaks throughout the year). Bright Stars Baby & Toddler Group Our baby and toddler group is on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am. We provide a welcoming and lively space for parents and children to gather and grow. Our activities will include ‘messy play’, story and song, games (guest speakers), snacks, tidy-up and new equipment which will allow both you as the parent/carer and your child to meet friends, explore new things and learn. For some parents, grandparents and carers, the weekly catch-up and opportunity for children to play and make new friends is enough. Taekwon-Do at Laragh Laragh Taekwon-Do is running the fantastic ITF Kids Development Program for the 4s to 8s, it covers topics such as physical skills, mind skills, independence skills, nutrition awareness and of course Taekwon-Do Skills.  The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness,  Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns We have had many recent developments in Laragh this month.  LGTT have now secured a shed to hold equipment for maintenance work around the area. Mike is doing a wonderful job keeping the place in ship shape along with Pat. The pathway by Laragh houses has not been upgraded since 1963 and last week it was restored by Wicklow County Council through Martin Stacey & Son company. It looks fantastic, well done! Thanks to local tree surgeon, David Holden who addressed the very large invasive tree grown by the Laragh Bridge. Some members of LGTT chatted on Liveline, Radio One and Eastcoast Radio about 30 bags of domestic rubbish dumped in the Avonmore River at Ballard Bridge. There will be a gathering in the Brockagh Resource Centre on Sept 16th with music followed by lunch in the Wicklow Heather Laragh.  The active retirement group meets every Tuesday morning from 10.45am – 12.15pm in the Brockagh Centre(with breaks throughout the year). They enjoy meeting for a chat with refreshments and light exercise each week. Workshops, daytrips and monthly lunches are throughout the year. On 14th of October lunch will be held in the Woodenbridge Hotel. New members are always welcome. Funding for Outdoor Recreation Funding of €306,750 for outdoor projects in Wicklow has been announced. This funding is being provided as part of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). Among other projects around Co.Wicklow is Brockagh Forest science & discovery area €40,000 and Wicklow Way signage improvements €36,450.     Miner's Village Glendalough Annual Pattern Day Walk The Annual Pattern Day Walk to Lady's Well Carrick Mountain near Moneystown in Co.Wicklow will be on Sun 17th Aug leaving Moneystown at 6pm. All are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult and no dogs allowed. Music, poetry, local history information on the rituals and traditions of Pattern Days are part of the event at the well. Refreshments afterwards in Moneystown Hall. The walk will focus on the plants, wildlife, and built heritage of this area of the Wicklow Mountains National Park, and will also include discussion on conservation and restoration works currently underway in the area. Booking is not required. This is a free event. Parking at the Wicklow Gap car park is free and the event will be for approx. 2 hours. Please dress for the outdoors and wear warm clothing, good shoes or walking boots, and bring waterproofs, just in case. Insect repellent is also recommended and, as this is an outdoor walk, there is a risk of tick bites - participants should be sure to check for ticks after the walk. Free access to many online resources including ebooks, languages, magazines, downloadable audio books, newspapers and more.    Taekwon-Do at Laragh Laragh Taekwon-Do is running the fantastic ITF Kids Development Program for the 4s to 8s, it covers topics such as physical skills, mind skills, independence skills, nutrition awareness and of course Taekwon-Do Skills.  The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness,  Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Active Retirement Laragh The group are starting back after the Summer break with a day trip on 26th of August, followed by a GAA Tour in Croke Park on Sept 9th.  The active retirement group meets every Tuesday morning from 10.45am – 12.15pm in the Brockagh Centre(with breaks throughout the year). They enjoy meeting for a chat with refreshments and light exercise each week. Workshops, daytrips and monthly lunches are throughout the year. New members are always welcome.
