From Friday 25th to Tuesday 29th September, you can drop off your unwanted scrap metal at the rear of the car park at Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, A98 D3H1. Drop-off is FREE and all proceeds from the scrap metal collection will go towards supporting Brockagh Resource Centre. We can accept everything from old pots, pans and radiators to bicycles, trailers, farm machinery, copper, brass and aluminium - see the graphic for the full list: Accepted: Biscuit tins, steel oil tanks, steel window frames, steel coal bunkers, car batteries, radiators, solid fuel cookers, sheep wire, bicycles, old cars without tyres, and steel wheelbarrows, golf irons etc. Prohibited: Fridges, freezers, cookers, timber, plastics, and tyres. This relaxed 3km walk will be taken at a comfortable pace, with shorter options available if needed. Lap Of The Gap- Enter for 2027 Forty-two kilometres of mountain road through Wicklow Mountains National Park. The only road marathon run inside the park is celebrating 10 successful years of achievements from many participants. Fifty-odd people did it first in May 2016. The race has grown every year since, on the penultimate Saturday of May, deliberately before the valley fills with summer visitors. Taekwon-Do at Laragh Laragh Taekwon-Do is running the fantastic ITF Kids Development Program for ages 4 to 8yrs, it covers topics such as physical skills, mind skills, independence skills, nutrition awareness and of course Taekwon-Do Skills. The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness, Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Take on the Glendalough Trail Run 2026 Get ready for an unforgettable day in the stunning Wicklow mountains while helping Fighting Blindness fund vital research towards treatments and a cure for sight loss. LGTT Volunteers & some residents of Cluain Bán cutting back the hedges! Stars of Wicklow Stars of Wicklow, a new countywide talent competition celebrating singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and specialty acts from across the county. The live final will take place in the Arklow Bay Hotel on 9th of October. We're hoping to reach as many talented performers as possible from across Wicklow. There are separate Junior (8–17 years) and Adult (18+) categories, with top prizes of €250 and €1,000 respectively, alongside additional prizes including professional headshot packages, recording studio vouchers and the inaugural Stars of Wicklow trophy. Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns News LGTT with ReWild Wicklow will be meeting on 15th of August at the Wicklow Gap junction to remove(as much as possible) invasive species seedlings etc. Wicklow National Park rangers will take away the sacks of species afterwards. Meeting at the site for 10am with Niamh leading the group into action. LGTT volunteers have been busy addressing the ongoing rubbish including dog poo bags being left around our woodlands and river beauty spots. The Cluain Bán residents and LGTT volunteers completed the hedge trimming along the pathway in the centre of the village recently and did a brilliant job, well done everyone! Thank you Lynhams of Laragh for providing refreshments for the volunteers afterwards! Laragh GAA contacted the WCC about hedge overgrowth down towards the Derrybawn Car Park which has now been cut back, thank you WCC. It promises to be a great day out for all the family. There will be many different attractions on the day, with favourites including tug of war, hang tough, sheaf pitching, pony rides, hand shearing, an array of show classes, wonderful craft stalls, model airplane display, live music and entertainment. The Show will feature four Irish Show Association All-Ireland Qualifiers. They are the Fleetwood Paints All Ireland Amateur Painting Championship for paintings of an Agricultural or Rural setting, the All-Ireland Photography Competition, themed, Natural Landscape of Ireland (scenery), the GAIN All Ireland Championship for a toy or miniature dog, any breed to be handled by a child under 15yrs; and a large dog, of any breed to be handled by anyone 16yrs or over. The show begins at 1pm at An Tochar GAA Grounds. Bat Walk and Talk Our next Bat Walk is on 19th of August at 8.45pm with a Bat Talk at 7.45pm. Join us to learn all about these wonderful creatures as we search for bats in flight using our bat detectors along the dark, wooded paths of Glendalough. Species of bats that have been encountered on previous walks include: Soprano Pipistrelle, Leisler’s, long-eared and Daubenton’s bats. Booking: Free of charge. Booking is not necessary. Parking: Parking is available at the County Council Upper Lake Car Park, A98W778 (charges apply). The car park will remain open for the duration of this event. But will close promptly thereafter. Practicalities: Walking approximately 3 kilometres on both hard and rough surfaced paths on the valley floor. Bring a torch and insect repellent! Open Day at Wicklow Head Lighthouse To celebrate National Heritage Week 2026, Wicklow Head Lighthouse will be open on Sunday 16th August from 10am to 4pm. This is a free event offering a rare chance to step inside one of Ireland’s most iconic lighthouses, now a bucket list self-catering property. Perched high above the Irish Sea, and almost always booked out, the transformation of this imposing six-storey tower was one of the final projects by renowned architect Maura Shaffrey. Visitors can admire the remarkable views and explore the unique interior while learning more about the conservation work undertaken by Irish Landmark Trust. Please note: Strictly no parking at the Lighthouse. Visitors must park in the Glen Beach Cliff Walk Carpark. There will be guides to direct visitors to the lighthouse which is a 2km walk. No dogs allowed in the property. Children should be accompanied at all times. There are 109 steps to the top floor. Visitors with mobility issues may find going further than the ground floor entrance challenging, particularly with the footfall we expect on the day.
