  • Laragh Glendalough Notes Week Beg 18th May

    Pilgrim Walk Following the tradition of pilgrimage, a series of walks has been organised to mark St. Kevin’s Day on Saturday June 6th, 2026. Participants will walk towards Glendalough following a choice of 7 different routes which will merge along the way with other walkers from the same area. Pick one of the routes and then contact the group leader who will confirm the details on the route’s length, starting time, location or by joining en route for shorter options. Each person will walk all or part of their chosen route finishing with a ‘gathering’ of walkers sharing refreshments at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh A98 D3H1 around 2pm. Booking is not required. Car park charges apply. Bat Walk at Deputy’s Pass Meet at Deputy’s Pass Car Park on May 21st from 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm. Nocturnal and numerous, and source of much folklore, bats are among our most common and at the same time least understood native mammals. Join us at Deputy’s Pass this Natura 2000 Day for a bat walk in the woods at night. Learn about their lives and their role in the woods, and how we find out which bats live where!For all ages. Wrap up warm for the walk at night, bring a torch if you have one, and even better a bat detector – if you don’t, we’ll be sharing some round on the walk and showing you how to use them! Lough Dan Charity Swim Challenge yourself in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains in beautiful Lough Dan, while supporting two amazing charities. The event will be staged from the Lough Dan Scout Centre on the 12th of July 2026. There are two different distances starting in separate waves. The first is a 1 km 'novice' swim and the other a 3.9 km 'ironman distance'. We are honoured to be partnering with two incredible charities for our inaugural event! Everyone will be familiar with the amazing work that Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services undertake in their facility in Maghermore and in our communities in Co. Wicklow and beyond. Taekwon-Do at Laragh Laragh Taekwon-Do is running the fantastic ITF Kids Development Program for ages 4 to 8yrs, it covers topics such as physical skills, mind skills, independence skills, nutrition awareness and of course Taekwon-Do Skills. The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness, Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Our ‘bubble tube’ a lovely addition to our sensory collection and the disco ball/speaker with the background coloured/light stimulation had been greatly received. Visit our website at www.brockaghresourcecentre.ie .  Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns Phase 3 of our native tree planting with ReWild Wicklow and Wicklow Mountains National Park  is complete at the Wicklow Gap, Glendalough junction. A fenced enclosure to prevent deer damaging the trees was erected and planted with a variety of native trees. A further 30 trees were planted in cages outside the enclosure. We are very grateful to all the volunteers and especially to our youth Pure Mile ambassadors Eanna and Huidai. LGTT volunteers were out gardening last week around the area along with our CE worker, Niall. A great effort by all in the village and we can see the work coming to bloom now in Spring.  Our next community litter picking morning will be on Saturday 11th of April from 10-11am. Friday, 27 March 2026: Following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE), Uisce Éireann has issued a Do Not Consume Notice for customers supplied by Raheen Well Water Treatment Plant in Co Wicklow. This notice has been issued to protect the health of customers in 60 properties on the supply due to elevated levels of sodium and chloride (salt) in the supply.  Please note the notice only applies to the below groups: Babies who are formula-fed.  Do not use Raheen Well water to make infant formula or to prepare food for babies. Please use bottled water that is provided or use an alternative safe water source. People on a strict low-sodium (salt-restricted) diet. This includes people with conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension), kidney disease as well as certain heart conditions. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please speak to your GP or healthcare provider. For individuals not in the above groups, the water may still be used as normal for drinking and cooking, but you may notice a salty taste. This Do Not Consume Notice applies to all customers served by the Raheen Well Water Treatment Plant including the following areas: Annamoe Village and Raheen. Aaron Cullen setting a new club record at the Moneystown 4 Mile. Graeme Warren placed 7th overall at the Wicklow Hospice Half Marathon. A trio of runners is travelling to Japan to complete the Tokyo Marathon. Strong club representation at the Bohermeen Half Marathon and across several IMRA hill races.     National Tree Week 2026 runs from March 8th to March 15th with the theme " Growing a Greener Future Together ". Organized by the Tree Council of Ireland and Coillte , this initiative promotes planting native trees, boosting biodiversity, and hosting community-led events nationwide. Key activities include free tree giveaways, school photography competitions, and educational tree-planting workshops. Rambling House Event - Annamoe Centre Our first Rambling House of 2026 in the Annamoe Centre is on Friday 13th of March  at 8pm.  All are welcome. Any queries to 086-8749092. Laragh & Glendalough Tidy Towns Wonderful work was completed by the Laragh Glendalough Tidy Towns volunteers last week as they planted a native biodiversity hedge in Laragh village. Many thanks to the residents on the Village Lane, to Andrew Nolan, youth Tidy Towns members Eanna and Huidai, and to Ciara Lynham and family for providing us with delicious food afterwards. Laragh Glendalough Tidy Towns also received a “Highly Commended” award for ongoing biodiversity work from Wicklow County Council at the awards ceremony in the Brockagh Resource Centre on Saturday 7th March. Yoga with Louise Vinyasa Krama Yoga (step-by-step). Classes are from 10am to 11.20 in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. The practice will provide gentle stretching, improved strength and flexibility, as well as help students to find balance and calm in everyday life.  Louise takes students through Asana, Pranayama and Meditation for a full Yoga practice.
