Shelton Abbey-Open Day This is a yearly event in Shelton Abbey Prison with music, food, kids entertainment, face painting, flower sales, cake sales, hook a duck, history tour, pony rides, fire brigade demonstrations, birds of prey, wheel of fortune. Featuring performances by Enniscorthy Gospel Choir and Barn Assemble. The open day will be on Tuesday, 14th July from 12-4pm. Parking is €3. Twite-Summer Lectures Summer lectures are from 2nd July to 20th August, at 7:30pm every Thursday brought to you by Wicklow Mountains National Park. Annamoe Centre Evening Group Fitness Classes For anyone in Annamoe or nearby villages looking for a friendly evening class to get moving after work. The Heritage Office was delighted to support the annual Glendalough Community Excavations, thanks to UCD School of Archaeology for all hard word, the students and volunteers for their dedication and to The Heritage Council and Wicklow County Council for providing funding through the County Wicklow Heritage Plan fund. Laragh and Glendalough Active Retirement The Active Retirement Group meets every Tuesday morning from 10:45am to 12:15pm at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh (with breaks throughout the year). The group shared plenty of laughs at their final weekly gathering before the summer break. They are now taking a well-deserved break and look forward to returning in September. The program also has three extra modules namely Danger Awareness, Stranger Awareness and Bullying Awareness. We also run the full International Taekwon-Do Federation syllabus including pattern, sparring, power and special technique for our 10s upward and teenagers. Wicklow Mountains National Park Summer Lectures Our Summer Lectures 2026 kick off on Thursday 2nd July with a talk on Harvestmen by Brian Murray. Brian is a Blessington-based distinguished entomologist, with a wide knowledge of many invertebrate groups, including a deep knowledge of harvestmen. He recently discovered a species of harvestman, new to Ireland. Brian is the founder of the microWild project (www.microwild.org), a native wildflower meadow and invertebrate reserve in Blessington, Wicklow. Music in the Forest 2026... an Ancient Music Festival in Dorlindon Forest This summer, experience a celebration of Ancient Music in one of Ireland’s most enchanting natural settings with several music dates to choose from. Hosted at Dorlindon Nature Sanctuary, this open-air festival brings together live performances of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music, performed in a mythical forest environment rich with beauty, stillness, and atmosphere. A unique blend of sounds from across the ages, including Irish Classical and traditional influences. Performances are from 3pm to 5pm in a natural forest amphitheatre. Walking group in the Brockagh Join the Laragh Walking Group every Monday morning at 10.00am for a friendly one-hour walk around the beautiful Glendalough area. There is no fee to take part, no booking is required, simply come along on the day. Lough Dan Charity Swim Challenge yourself in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains in beautiful Lough Dan, while supporting two amazing charities. The event will be staged from the Lough Dan Scout Centre on the 12th of July 2026. There are two different distances starting in separate waves. The first is a 1 km 'novice' swim and the other a 3.9 km 'ironman distance'. We are honoured to be partnering with two incredible charities for our inaugural event! Everyone will be familiar with the amazing work that Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services undertake in their facility in Maghermore and in our communities in Co. Wicklow and beyond. Bat Watches & Walks 2026 Join National Parks & Wildlife Service Guides at dusk as we watch 100s of tiny Soprano Pipistrelle bats emerge from their daytime roost in the National Park Information Office attic. Participants are then welcome to join us as we search for them using our bat detectors along the dark, wooded paths of Glendalough. Other species of bats that have been encountered on previous walks include: Pipistrelle, Leisler’s, long-eared and Daubenton’s bat. The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon / Glen to Glen Half-marathon was created in 2016 and is a road race with all the benefits of a trail run: beautiful scenery and the opportunity to run against a challenging and memorable course. Laragh and Glendalough Tidy Towns News We were delighted to present Cluain Ban Residents Association with funds to continue their terrific gardening and maintenance work on their estate. They deserve to be very proud of all the work they have done. A presentation will take place this week to Beechwood, Mountain View and Brockagh neighbourhood. These presentations are made possible by recent donations from film companies, local people and our Christmas raffle. It is a joy for the LGTT committee to be in a position to share and reinvest in our wonderful community.
